Last week, the Environmental Daily Advisor discussed spill prevention, control and countermeasure (SPCC) violations and deadlines, and chemical regulations under the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA).

SPCC violations: What are inspectors finding?--At the 2013 National Institute for Storage Tank Management’s (NISTM) 15th annual conference and trade show, an EPA regulator shared the most common SPCC violations for nonproduction facilities he finds on field inspections.

SPCC violations: The dirty dozen--The same EPA officials also shared what he has found to be typical violations from all facility types.

Do your facility activities fall under TSCA?--Anyone who manufactures, imports, or exports hazardous chemicals must comply with the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). If you want to manufacture or import a chemical not listed on the TSCA list of chemicals you must notify the EPA at least 90 days before producing or importing the new chemical substance.

Shipping chemicals? What you need to know about TSCA requirements--Anyone who manufactures, imports, or exports hazardous chemicals must comply with TSCA.

Farm SPCC deadline --The May 10, 2013, SPCC Plan deadline for farms is here and that means farms in operation on or before August 16, 2002, must maintain or amend their existing SPCC Plan by that date. Also, any farm that started operation after August 16, 2002, but before May 10, 2013, must prepare and use an SPCC plan on or before May 10, 2013.
