In the United States, OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard (2012) requires that employers and workers use the SDS as a source of information regarding hazardous materials and to obtain advice on safety precautions.

About Safety Data Sheets
A Safety Data Sheet, formerly known as a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), is a critical piece of workplace safety and product stewardship. SDSs provide a standard for collecting and providing information on chemicals, chemical compounds, and mixtures. An SDS outlines procedures for safe handling, toxicity, health effects, physical data, first aid, storage, and disposal along with additional material data.
About GHS
The Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling was proposed by the United Nations in an effort to internationally standardize classification and labeling of chemicals and related hazard communication. The benefits of GHS include reduced time and costs involved in meeting multiple regulations for hazard communication, improved comprehension and understanding of health and environmental hazards, facilitation of trade by removing barriers created by various health and safety requirements, and reduction of duplicate testing.
