Environmental Daily Advisor Week in Review--August 26, 2013, to August 30, 2013

Last week, the Environmental Daily Advisor discussed PCBs and lamp recycling, risks associated with sunken vessels, and land disposal restrictions (LDRs).

Here's the Environmental Daily Advisor week in review.

Lamp Recycling and PCBs--An Arizona lamp recycler was fined for $71,500 for violations relating to its handling of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) at its recycling facility.

PCB Marking Requirements--Make sure you don't mislabeling polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs).

Sunken Vessels Pose Oil Threats
--In a recent report, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) tries to assess the risks to the environment posed by one of the least understood sources of pollution—sunken vessels.

More Risks with Sunken Vessels-- NOAA has been building a database of shipwrecks, dump sites, navigational obstructions, underwater archaeological sites, and other underwater cultural resources and estimates that there are 20,000 shipwrecks in U.S. waters.

Notification Requirements under Land Disposal Restrictions (LDRs)--RCRA’s LDRs require that shipments of hazardous waste from a generator to a treatment facility and then from a treatment facility to a hazardous waste disposal facility be accompanied by notifications that contain information on the regulatory status of the waste.
