Last week, the Environmental Daily Advisor discussed spill response, hazardous waste identification, and summertime emergencies.
Here's the Environmental Daily Advisor week in review.
Spill response best practices--Spills sounds so innocuous and accidental. But, spilled fluids can pollute the environment and harm people in the community and your workers. Spills also create a financial liability for your business.
What's in your spill kit?--One very effective best practice for spills is to keep spill sorbents and a "spill kit" in each area where fluids are handled and stored.
Waste anaylsis: LGQs and SQGs need a plan--Large quantity generators (LQGs) and small quantity generators (SQGs) of hazardous waste must develop and implement a waste analysis plan (WAP) to classify the hazardous waste and ensure that it is managed properly.
Make sure all these elements are in your WAP--Yesterday we told you about the requirements of a waste analysis plan (WAP). The purpose of a waste analysis plan (WAP) is to achieve a detailed analysis of a representative sample of the hazardous waste(s) being treated.
Be prepared for unique summertime dangers-- If a devastating weather emergency such as a hurricane, a killer tornado, or a deadly fire were to strike in your area, would your employees be prepared to cope with such a difficult, stressful, and dangerous situation?
