Long-awaited CO2 regs finally announced

Earlier today EPA released the Clean Power Plan, EPA’s next step in carrying out President Obama’s Climate Action Plan. The plan proposes regulations for reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
- Nationwide, the plan will to cut carbon pollution from the power sector by 30% from 2005 levels by 2030, and will reduce pollutants that cause soot and smog by over 25%;
- The Plan is comprised of 1) state-specific goals to reduce carbon pollution from the power sector; and 2) guidelines to help states develop plans to meet the goals;
- There are no requirements on individual electric generating units;
- State-specific goals to reduce overall carbon intensity of the power sector;
- States given flexibility to choose the best, most cost-effective methods to meet the goals;
- States must submit plans by June 30, 2016.
