If you’re a hazardous waste large quantity generator (LQG) or a hazardous waste treatment, storage and disposal facility (TSDF), you’re probably breathing a sigh of relief that this is not the year that you must prepare and submit a Hazardous Waste Report (EPA Form 8700-13 A/B), aka a “biennial report,” by March 1. But before you get too lost in that comforting fact, remember that many states require a filing in the biennial report “off year” (this year) that may require much of the information found in the biennial report, such as that concerning the quantities, type, and management method of the hazardous wastes generated on-site and/or received from off-site sources in the just finished calendar year, 2016. Usually referred to by a state as an “annual report,” “annual waste summary,” or the like, the report may need to be filed in 2017 by LQGs, TSDFs and, in some cases, small quantity generators (SQGs) or hazardous waste transporters.

But state reporting doesn’t necessarily stop with annual reports. Some states have quarterly reporting requirements and some even go so far as to require the submission of a monthly report to describe a hazardous waste handler’s waste activities during that specific time period.
State reporting requirements
This table lists the 25 states that require a hazardous waste management report during each calendar year, the type of report (i.e., annual, quarterly, monthly), who must prepare the report, and the date by which the report must be submitted to the state environmental regulatory agency. Detailed information about the contents of each report and applicable regulatory citations can be found in the state BLR® regulatory analysis. (Click on your state in the table below.)
So take a deep breath, and if your state made the list, mark your calendar.
