Hazardous Substance Storage
National Summary
The term "hazardous substance" is broad and includes hazardous chemicals, hazardous wastes, and/or petroleum products. "Hazardous materials" is an even broader term encompassing hazardous substances. No one set of federal rules regulates every aspect of hazardous substance storage. Several federal rules individually regulate the storage of hazardous materials, hazardous chemicals, hazardous wastes, and petroleum products. Some states have their own rules for the storage of hazardous substances.
